Our Story

Mercy Church was a dream birthed in the heart of founding pastor Timmy Gibson, a Kansas City native, shortly before graduating Bible college in 1994. It would be several years before the dream was realized, as Timmy and his wife, Jana, spent eight years serving in various ministry capacities from Oklahoma to Alabama to Texas. Finally, in November 2002, they made their way to Kansas City to launch Mercy Church.

Mercy Church officially opened its doors on Sunday, January 5, 2003, with 64 people in attendance at Indian Trail Junior High School in Olathe, Kansas. A year later, the church moved next door to Olathe South High School and continued to meet there until January of 2010.  During this time the church continued to grow, seeing many lives changed as their eyes were opened to the generosity of God’s unconditional love. Mercy Church is truly a inter-denominational church, integrating and uniting people of all church backgrounds under the message of God’s love through Jesus Christ.

Late in 2009, Pastor Timmy and the staff felt a stirring in their hearts for something different… a new location for Mercy Church. After much discussion, research, and prayer, they perceived this was in fact the voice of God, and the hunt began to find a new home for Mercy Church. The search concluded right in the heart of Kansas City, at Indian Hills Middle School in Prairie Village. And finally in May of 2011 Mercy Church found a more permanent home in a church building located at 7501 Belinder Ave. | Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Mercy Church continues to thrive in fulfilling its vision “to lead people to a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ.” It has become known as a place where everyone is welcome, where hope is found and felt, where laughter is common and friendships are forged. Mercy Church is people. People loving God and loving each other as we journey through life together… the good, the bad and the ugly. That’s who we are, and that’s why we’re here. We would love for you to join our story.
